Solving the Problem

Opportunity: Currently, many senior citizens are living in their own homes rather than in nursing homes. While these seniors are living independently, many still need varying levels of assistance with day-to-day tasks. Sometimes the senior’s family is able to meet this need, but often the family lacks the time, energy, or opportunity to aid their elderly family members. Therefore, there is a sizeable unmet need for a comprehensive outside service that will provide seniors with personal and individualized assistance with everyday tasks such as driving, cooking, cleaning, coordination of personal appointments, and daily personal interaction.

Service: My solution to this problem would be a service that offered personalized assistance and companionship services to these seniors. The primary customer base would be the middle-aged children of the seniors who are trying to balance careers and families of their own with their elderly parent’s needs. The service would be personalized and tailored to each individual client’s needs, but some of the services that would be offered would include:

·      Driving the seniors

·      Shopping and running errands for the seniors (or helping them to do so)

·      Cooking meals inside the senior’s home

·      Basic cleaning services

·      Companionship

·      Assistance with scheduling, organization, and correspondence

Ideally, each client would be paired up with one personal assistant to foster a strong sense of trust and friendship between the senior and the employee. While the pricing would vary based on the specific services required, the client would be charged based on an hourly basis.
